Marissa Nichols is based in Silicon Valley, where she is the editor and senior writer for her nationally recognized, and uniquely trilingual magazine – English, Spanish, and Vietnamese. She also produces and co-hosts her diocesan podcast Invited. Prior to this, she was an editor and contributor to the online publication, Where Peter Is, and she was a longtime English teacher.

Marissa specializes in human interest stories that point to a variety of topics unique to the Church in the American West. She holds an advanced degree in Theology, specifically Church History.

Of Hispanic and Indigenous heritage, Marissa is personally compelled to tell the stories of those impacted by the Church’s complicated presence in its California missions, its later stabilizing impact upon Latinos, as well as its current denunciations of contemporary, ongoing mass deportations of refugees from Latin America.

She is also committed to highlighting stories of local Catholics from Asia and Southeast Asia, who now constitute a third of the Catholic population in Silicon Valley.  She is interested in communicating the narrative of the presence of the Church in the Bay Area through the first-hand accounts of its people.

Without the story of faith and religion, we lack the full story of our shared humanity in search of our true divinity.
