By Peggy Fletcher Stack, IARJ Executive Director

For some of our religion reporters, it was a good year, and for others, it brought untold challenges. Reporting on religion in war zones can be exquisitely difficult and heartbreaking; yet focusing on faith can also be evocative and inspiring.

American journalist Bobby Ross Jr. asked dozens of religion reporters to send him their favorite two or three stories from this year. He published the links here: https://religionunplugged.com/news/2024/12/20/best-religion-journalism-of-2024

I sent him a personal one I wrote on the 30th anniversary of our daughter’s death, in which I also interviewed a handful of others who had lost a child. Here is what I sent him: https://www.sltrib.com/religion/2024/01/20/30-years-longing-how-i-lost-my/

It’s such a great idea that I would like to invite all of our members to send us one to three links of the best stories you wrote in 2024. We will include these links in a roundup of great religion stories of the year.

As we look to the new year, IARJ is planning to host several more online discussions and one small conference in Kenya. We are once again co-sponsoring the Piazza Grande Religion Reporting Award with the European Association of Religion, but this time we will also participate in the group’s annual meeting in Vienna.

And we will continue to publish opportunities, important research on global faith traditions, and significant religion news from around the world.

We want to make this site much more interactive but can only do that with your help.

So send us your favorite stories today–and we’ll see you in the new year.
